Soozie Lubeck

I’m navigating my ever unfolding understanding of the world: the histories untold, the terra (not so) firma, the difficult with the beautiful. I exercise my right to unabashed color, precise line making, and the meeting of incongruent formalities.

My formative years were spent traveling in a powder blue Peugeot with two pop tents, my mother and father, and 3 siblings throughout Europe, including travel on a freighter from harbor to harbor on the Mediterranean Sea. By the time I was 9 I’d been to over 30 countries. (Not military, not diplomat, not refugee...)

I would have loved to be a Flamenco dancer, architect, researcher, or Antarctic explorer, but I never could decide, so I engage all my interests through art.

I’m my own message in a bottle. I don’t know what will be said as I approach the white canvas, but through a disciplined process, intuition, a range of daring and doubt, the result ebbs from my hands.
It is a joy. Sometimes excruciating, but pleasure.
