My primary medium is painting but I also work in collage and printmaking. My abstractions are inspired by observations from life, such as the figure, landscape and interiors. I seek to represent mystery through obscuring previous layers in my paintings and to balance natural forms with graphic forms and patterns, reflecting locations and objects from my past. My interest in portraying the loss and rediscovery of history and memories through my artwork runs parallel to my work as an archivist.

As an archivist, I preserve and make accessible collections related to the history of UMass Boston, its neighboring communities, alternative movements, and war and social consequences. My experiences helping students discover the importance of history, accountability, and how the past informs the present inspires my artwork.

I view history as tied to who we are as individuals and collectively as people; it is what makes us human. With this in mind, I build layers in my paintings, sanding or wiping out areas to reveal or conceal the history of brushstrokes and imagery. My paintings represent a curated history of brushstrokes and imagery, serving as a source of reflection for these choices and the path taken to complete a painting.

I am a Boston-based painter and who creates paintings and prints at Vernon Street Studios in Somerville, Massachusetts. I hold a BFA in painting from Massachusetts College of Art and an MS in Library and Information Science from Simmons University. I work as an archivist at UMass Boston’s U
